Firenze: roundtable "Academic freedom and the international struggle for Palestine"
Venerdì 30 Maggio 2025 16:00 - 18:00

The EUI's Working Group on Palestine invites you for an event examining the contemporary crackdowns on Palestine solidarity activism at universities around the globe and
the growing restrictions on academic freedom and dissent. You can register for attending the panel event here:
https://apps.eui.eu/EventRegistration/Home/Login?eventId=579477 [apps.eui.eu].

The past nineteen months have seen widespread repression of Palestine solidarity activism at universities worldwide. In the US, students and faculty face disciplinary
measures, "doxxing", and police violence for protesting the ongoing genocide in Gaza. German universities have banned Palestine solidarity events under antisemitism
accusations, instrumentalizing Erinnerungskultur (Culture of Remembrance) to suppress criticism of Israel. In Palestine itself, Israeli institutions systematically
marginalize Palestinian scholars and censor discussions on the Nakba and occupation. This event brings together scholars, university activists, and legal practitioners from
around the world to examine these repressive trends and to consider which strategies we have to fight them.

The panel features Kiran Chaudhuri from the European Legal Support Center, Adi Mansour from Adalah Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel and LLM student at the
EUI, Noam Chen-Zion from Student Workers of Columbia, UAW Local 2710, and Maria Chiara Rioli from Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia.
